What kind of operations professional are you?

I believe there are 6 types of operations professionals. It really depends on your company, if it is mature or new or your industry. One of the most important factors is what kind of CEO are you working with. The personality and makeup of your CEO will have the biggest influence on how you go about your job.

We will be talking about these types in detail in later posts, but here are the Operations Professional Types.

The Thinker – You spend most of your time on strategy and how to realize the vision of your CEO (where most of us would like to be, but most cannot spend much time here).

The Umbrella – Your CEO has lots of ideas and can often be unfocused. You spend your time protecting the rest of the team from the “crazy” and keep focus on the ideas and strategies that drive the company forward.

The Safety Net– You spend your day making sure nothing hits the ground. Things just keep coming at you and you need to make sure nothing hits the ground.

The Traffic Cop – You spend your time what goes where and to whom. You run around all day just making sure nothing is stalled and went the right “direction”

The Fire Fighter – You put out fires all day, every day.

The ER Nurse – you triage problems most of the day, both preventing tragedy and bringing things back from the brink.

What do you think?
